Chocolate avocado mousse – yes please!
When you’re on your period, it’s pretty common to look for comfort. And a lot of times that comfort comes in the form of food. Like with chocolate.
Chocolate does the job every single time. At least for me. And why wouldn’t it? Cacao is a total mood booster! It’s rich in antioxidants and flavonoids that can even support learning and sharpening of the memory. But not all chocolate treats are created equal and this is particularly true when we’re talking about that time of the month…
The Period + Chocolate Dilemma
As you approach the end of your luteal phase and are about to get your period, a few changes happen in your body. One of the main ones, your levels of progesterone and estrogen drastically drop. And this drop can really take us on a challenging and emotional rollercoaster ride.
It’s been featured thousands and thousands of times in movies and shows. The “emotional” side of our menstrual cycle – the one where we desperately cry watching puppy videos while eating an entire brownie. Unfortunately it’s typically not showed in the best light, but our period is a very important part of our cycle. And it needs to be treated with tons and tons of love + self-care.
Does this mean to freely enjoy an entire brownie? You can if you want. But if you really really want to give your period a REAL treat (flavor + nutritionally speaking), there’s a better way of doing it.
The problem with the brownie is that although it can give you a little immediate boost, it can also leave you feeling much worse throughout your period and menstrual cycle. Because alas, many of the chocolate treats are mainly lots of sugar and not much else. Which will just take us further on that rollercoaster ride since the constant spike and drop of blood sugar levels can really stress and inflame the body. This can make cramps, acne, and other symptoms much much worse.
Don’t Ditch The Chocolate Just Yet
In order for you to fully get the comforting and mood-boosting benefits from chocolate sans the body inflammation, all you have to do is balance it out. Meaning that your dessert should include: protein, healthy fats, and fiber.
In comes today’s dessert: Chocolate Avocado Mousse.
The avocado will provide protein, healthy fats, and fiber to our recipe. While the coconut milk will make our mousse oh so creamy and make you ask: how is this recipe even healthy?.
To top everything, adding the Phase 1 Seed Blend from our seed cycling kit will FULLY support the hormonal changes that your body is going through. It’s a delicious way to satiate your sweet tooth, give your mood a boost, AND your body a nutrition makeover. It’s like a hug in a cup for your body, hormones, and soul!
So are you ready to give these a go? Let’s head on to our kitchen then. See you there!
